Mr. Thurston Wingate Spivey, 74, a resident of Thomasville, passed away Wednesday morning, May 21, 2025, at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington, with his family by his side. He was born in Columbus County to the late Rozier Lee Spivey and Blanchie Soles Spivey. Thurston attended Charity Baptist Church in High Point and worked for many loyal years as a truck driver. On November 20, 1975, he married Marie Powers and they enjoyed almost 50 years as husband and wife. Thurston liked working and ‘piddling” with old cars and watching racing and wrestling. He enjoyed burning bonfires and he liked to “feed up” his animals, which included dogs, goats, chickens and turkeys. Thurston really enjoyed spending time with his wife, boys, grandkids and great-grandkids. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by everyone.
In addition to his parents, Thurston is preceded in death by two sisters, Tootsie and Karen; two brothers, Herman and Thurman.
Thurston is survived by his devoted wife, Marie Powers Spivey of the home; four sons, Michael Spivey and wife Angie, Derrick “Scooby” Spivey, Bradley Spivey and wife Lorrie, JR Spivey and wife Amber; two sisters, Carol and Tina; sixteen grandchildren, Amy, Darin, Ryan, Ashlyn, Jordan, Madison, Reese, Pyper, Macy, Shallon, Kirk, Julia, Riley, Brayden, Kaylin, Camden; twelve great-grandchildren, Boston, Baydin, Avie, Rosie, Karsyn, Reagan, Emmy, Cole, Saylor, Harper, Aria, Adeline; many extended family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Charity Baptist 6835 Charity Church Lane, High Point, NC 27263, with Rev. Elton Wilborne officiating.
