Van "Boogie" Hicks, Sr. Obituary

Mr. Van “Boogie” Weldon Hicks, Sr. 83, of Lexington, died peacefully with his life partner, children and grandkids around him at Atrium Health High Point Hospital on Monday, March, 18, 2024. Boogie was born on June 24, 1940, in Randolph County to the late Carl Lee Hicks and Viola Kindley Hicks.  He graduated from Central Davidson High School in 1961. He attended Pleasant Grove Methodist Church and retired after 30 loyal years with the City of Thomasville.  Boogie started out working in the street department and ended his career as the Landfield supervisor. He loved his garden, tractors, NASCAR and watching old westerns. Boogie enjoyed hanging out with his buddies for breakfast at Randy’s Restaurant.  He loved spending time with his family and friends and will be missed by everyone who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Boogie is preceded in death by three sisters, Beatrice Summey, Ruby Gallimore, Crissy Jane Smith; five brothers, T.J. Hicks, L.C. Hicks, Roland Hicks, Richard Hicks, Hoyt Hicks; a great-grandson, Kaleb Dill.

Left to cherish Boogie’s memory are his life partner, Faye Porter of Germanton; his son, Van Weldon Hicks, Jr. and wife, Kelly of Thomasville; four daughters, Virginia Tate and husband Pete of Thomasville, Carey Gregory and husband Todd of Lexington, Jana Hicks of Lexington, Aimee Farlow and wife Sharon of Archdale; three brothers, Hollis Hicks and wife, Elaine of Lexington, David Hicks and wife Janet of Lexington, Dallas Hicks of Thomasville; two sisters, Julia Ruth Tharp of Belews Creek, Donese Trotter and husband, Jimmy of Thomasville; eight grandchildren, Lindsey Cisneros, Taylor Lynch, Dakota Tate, Jake Thomas, Savannah Hicks, Tyler Hicks, MaryKatherine Roberts, Dalton Hicks; ten great-grandchildren, Korbin Dill, Addison Cisneros, Elijah Cisneros, Marley Tate, Nadia Logan, Nola Logan, Naomi Logan, Emma Hicks, Grayson Henderson, Salem Henderson; an expected great-great grandson, Oliver Borowski; numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 21, 2024 at J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville, with Rev. Jason Craver officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, 8114 Old US Hwy 64, Lexington, NC 27292.  The family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
