Vicky (Barefoot) Dorety

Victoria (Vicky) Barefoot Dorety passed away at the Hospice Home of High Point on the afternoon of August 28, 2025. She was one of three children to Horace O. and Eveleen Carroll Barefoot. She was preceded in death by her brother, Horace, Jr, and both of her parents.

Born in Raleigh, NC on October 4th, 1955, Vicky spent her life in North Carolina. As a preacher’s daughter, she grew up in a number of places, establishing her most enduring childhood roots in Cedar Creek and Thomasville.  She graduated from Thomasville High School in 1973.

In 1978, Vicky began her 36 year long career at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She married John L. (Jack) Dorety on July 28, 1979. Together, they had three children who meant more to her than anything else in the world. Vicky dedicated her life to her family, career, and church community at Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Whatever was left over, she dedicated to cheering on NC State’s marching band, basketball, football, and rifle athletics.

Vicky is survived by her husband John L. Dorety, her children: Ryan D. (Christopher) Gardner, Jonathan D. (Casey) Dorety, and Katie M. (Rohit) Dorety; her beloved grandchildren: Clementine L. Dorety, Reese L. Gardner, and Morrigan P. Dorety; her sister Martha B. (David) Graham, step-mother Jean Barefoot, nieces Lynn G. (Larry) Henson, Sandra G. (James) Bass; and a plentitude of beloved members of the Dorety and Barefoot families.
