Virgil "Butch" Ray Johnson

Virgil Ray “Butch” Johnson, 80, of Trinity passed away Monday, August 28, 2023 at Westchester Manor in High Point. Butch was born on February 9, 1943 in Forsyth County to the late Sanford Floyd Johnson and Essie Neal Johnson. He worked many years in the furniture industry at Custom Processing in High Point until his retirement. Butch enjoyed riding horses; which he won numerous ribbons for. He loved to fish, travel to rodeos, and was an avid NASCAR fan. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ruth Johnson; second wife, Shelby Jean Johnson; one daughter, Bridgett Joy Johnson; and two brothers, Julian Neal Johnson and Jerry Wayne Johnson.

Surviving are his two daughters, Robin Johnson, and Lisa Johnson Wall; two sons, Virgil R. Johnson, II and wife Evelyn, and Bobby Lee Johnson, all of Salisbury; four grandchildren, Misty Dawn Burch, Bobby Preston Johnson, Jessey Johnson, Brent Jacob Wall; and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his beloved Rex Oil Co. friends and breakfast buddies.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 1:00 PM at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Bynum Orr officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday night from 6:00-8:00 PM. A private burial will take place at Forsyth Memorial Park Cemetery in Winston Salem.
