Virginia Evelyn Hardee, born in Bladenboro, North Carolina on May 10, 1939, passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was raised by Mace and Annie Simmons.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Cecil Hardee. Together, they built a strong and loving family, one that continues to carry on their life lessons, spirit, and legacy.
Virginia’s work ethic was like no other. Before moving to North Carolina, she was a tenant farmer in Loris, South Carolina. Throughout the years, she was a dedicated employee at Dogwood Hosiery, Thomasville Furniture, Carolina Underwear, CWP, Thomasville City Schools Cafeteria, and L&M Framing.
She is survived by her four children: Jerry Hardee (Edwina), Sharon Hardee, Pamela Struzinski (Frank), and Brian Hardee (Karen). Virginia was the proud grandmother of ten grandchildren: Allison Wetterau (Benjamin), Frank Struzinski III, MaKayla Leak, Courtney Cornelison, Brian Hardee Jr., Garrett Hardee, Patrick Hardee, Levi Cornelison, Abigail Ricker, and Landis Cornelison. She also leaves behind one cherished great-grandchild, Gracelynn Lee Wetterau.
Virginia had a deep love for life’s simple pleasures. Her garden was a place of beauty and peace, filled with the vibrant blooms and homegrown vegetables she tended with care. Her cooking brought family together, and her kitchen was a place of laughter, storytelling, and the comforting smells of “Down-Home Cookin’ ”. She cherished the timeless voice of George Jones, and she never missed a chance to celebrate her loved ones’ birthdays with her own joyful, heartfelt rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
In her later years, Virginia found companionship and adventure with her life partner, Lloyd Manns. Together, they shared a love of travel, exploring the country, and made lasting memories. From the sweeping views of Mount Rushmore to the charm of Mackinac Island, they made special memories together.
Virginia will be remembered for her strength, her devotion to family, and her wit. Her memory will live on in the gardens she grew, the meals she shared, and the memories and stories she shared.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 12:00 Noon at the JC Green & Sons Chapel in Thomasville with Pastor Doug Hardin officiating.
