Vivian Carol Auman Gilliam, 91, of Thomasville passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Piedmont Crossing. Vivian was born February 12, 1934 in Montgomery County, North Carolina to the late Clyde Auman and Martha Byrd Auman. She was a faithful member of Memorial United Methodist Church. She graduated in 1954 from the Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as nurse until her ultimate calling began of being a full-time mother and homemaker. She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, Dr. Charles F. Gilliam and mother to her five children. Her humble spirit will be missed by all who knew her. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles F. Gilliam on May 2, 1996 and two brothers, Bill Auman and Bob Auman.
Surviving are her five children, Jane Freeman and husband Billy, of High Point, Charlotte Hanner and husband Ken of Thomasville, Martha Snider and husband Perry of Denton, Don Gilliam and wife Mary of Tennessee and Jeff Gilliam and wife Janet of Hickory; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a special friend and caregiver, Sheree Markwell.
A graveside inurnment will be held Monday, September 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville with Rev. Danny Leonard officiating. The family will greet friends following the graveside. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.jcgreenandsons.com.
