Walter "WJ" James O'Quinn, Jr.

Mr. Walter “WJ” James O’Quinn, Jr., 74, a resident of Thomasville passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. He was born on December 24, 1947 in Sanford, North Carolina to the late Walter James O’Quinn, Sr. and Virginia Gray O’Quinn. WJ worked many years as a truck driver and was of the Baptist faith. In his younger years he enjoyed roller skating and in his spare time, he enjoyed watching nascar. He also loved taking care and looking after the neighborhood cats. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by, two brothers, Harold O’Quinn of Apex, NC and Jerry O’Quinn of Louisiana.

Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Gayle Johnson O’Quinn of the home; three daughters, Kerry Keeling (Jimmie) of Thomasville, Shannon Doughten of Thomasville, and Wendy Macvicar (Andy) of Florida; four grandchildren, Samira, Laurel, Nicole, and Matthew; and many extended family members.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 4:00 PM at Mt Olive Baptist Church in Thomasville with Rev. Jack Hurley officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 3:30 till 4:00 PM in the church sanctuary. The family would like to thank Dr. Charles and the staff at Novant Health Cancer Institute and the staff of Hinkle Hospice House for their endless care and support during this difficult time.
