Warren H. King Obituary

Mr. Warren Harville King, 82, a resident of Thomasville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at the Hospice Home at High Point. He was born on April 29, 1941 in High Point to his parents, the late Marguerite Scearce Lackey and Wayman Clyde Lackey. He is survived by his sisters, Roxie Lackey Wheeler and husband Joe, and Lisa Lackey Lewallen and husband Jeff; nieces, Lori Wheeler Farmer and husband Alex, and Shannon Lewallen Colvin and husband, Ryan; nephew, Brian Wheeler; grandniece, Piper Farmer; grandnephew, Boggs Colvin; and numerous friends, who he considered as family.

Warren King loved Thomasville. The city of Thomasville adopted him, and let him be the person he was. You could see him in earlier years walking down streets of Thomasville, saying hello, and bringing a smile to all he met. He also was a huge sports fan, and he could be seen at any Thomasville High School sports game waving the Bulldog flag and cheering the team to victory. Warren was a fixture and #1 fan of the Hi-Toms Baseball and loved attending all the games at Finch Field. He was a lifelong member of the Tom A. Finch YMCA, where he greeted members and gave them a hug, handshake, or a smile. He never met a stranger. Some of his awards he received during his lifetime included The Spirit of the YMCA Award (2014), Davidson County Sports Hall of Fame Unsung Hero (2015), the Goodwill Ambassador of the Thomasville Chamber of Commerce (2015); and the Thomasville Senior High School Hall of Fame (2024). He was a member of the Thomasville Lions Club, and also the namesake for the subdivision “King Haven” across from the high school.

The family would like to thank all his friends and staff at Brookstone Senior Living, where he made his home for over 20 years. Thanks also to Hospice of the Piedmont for taking such good care of our family.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Memorial United Methodist Church in Thomasville with Rev. Danny Leonard officiating.
