William L. Hiatt, 97, of Thomasville passed away Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville.
William was born March 6, 1929 to the late J. Will Hiatt and Elizabeth Payne Hiatt of Davidson County. He worked for RJ Reynolds for many years and retired as a machine operator. Williams true passion was farming, working the land, and even using a mule to plow in the early years. He was a self-taught “learn as you go” kind of man, striving to tackle most any DIY task he could.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by wife of 70 years, Betty Jean Hiatt; three siblings, Charles, Mable, and Lousie; many half siblings.
Surviving are his two children Sharon Milller and husband John of Apex, Brian Hiatt and wife Julie of Concord; four grandchildren, Heather Miller, Jeremy Miller, Andrew Hiatt and wife Kathleen, Erin Hiatt and husband Dalton; three great-grandchildren, Bryson, Chase, and Bella Miller; two sisters, Mary Frances Johnson and Peggy Shuler and husband Bud; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant Church in Thomasville with Rev. Chris Clontz officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends in the sanctuary one hour prior to the service.
