Mr. William “Bill” Herbert Moore, 85, a resident of Thomasville, passed away at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington on Thursday afternoon, January 1, 2026. Bill was born August 12, 1940, in Wilkes County, to the late Lonnie Lee Moore and Emma Ruphard Moore. Bill was of the Baptist faith and worked for many years as an upholsterer at Thayer Coggins Furniture Company and later retired from Thomasville City School Systems in 2017 as a custodian. On October 22, 1982, he married Becky McDowell and they enjoyed 43 years as husband and wife before his passing. Bill loved to play golf in his spare time and enjoyed the challenge of the local courses. He liked to listen to Bluegrass music and also enjoyed taking day trips with his wife, Becky. Bill loved to spend time with his family and friends and was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by seven brothers, J.D., General Lee, Wiley, John, Hilliard, Herbert and Odell; and four sisters, Gladys, Hazel, Cordie and Leathia.
Surviving is his loving wife, Becky Moore of the home; two daughters, Tess Imming (Ken) of Clayton, Melissa Pennington of High Point; a son, Dwayne Moore of Thomasville; a brother, R.V. Moore (Shirley) of Hickory; a sister, Margaret Wilson of Hickory; six grandchildren, Adam Beasley (Ashley), Olivia Moore, Alex Beasley (Tori), Kayla Imming, Mitchell Imming, Aaron Moore; and three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville, with Rev. Steve Manley officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
