Mr. Willie Legrand McPhatter, Sr. (Lee, Shug), 85, of Thomasville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on January 10, 2026, at Hospice of Davidson County.

Lee was born on October 6, 1940, in Dillon County, South Carolina, to the late Dock McPhatter and Rosie Simpson McPhatter. He attended Bright Light Freewill Baptist Church. Lee retired after 45 dedicated years of service at Thomasville Furniture, Plant D, Machine 2B, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dependability.

In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his beloved soulmate and wife of 53 years, Carolyn Sue McPhatter; six sisters, Victoria (Vic) McPhatter, Mary Moody, Evelyn Richardson, Sarah Leonard, Pat Fox, and Theda Allen; and one brother, Laval McPhatter.

He is survived by his three children, Angela McPhatter; Edwina McPhatter Hardee and husband Jerry; Lee McPhatter, Jr. and wife Christa. He also leaves behind four cherished grandchildren, Matt “Arnold” Holland (Angie), Taylor McPhatter and fiancé Alex, Alli Hurley and husband Josh, and Wil “Wilster” McPhatter III. Lee was a proud great-grandfather to Faith Holland and Poppy Bailey, with great-granddaughter Lila Raine Hurley soon to arrive.

After retirement, Lee continued to serve others by working devotedly at Holly Hill Cemetery, a place that held special meaning to him. Lee was truly a ray of sunshine, always willing to lend a helping hand, never meeting a stranger, and leaving a lasting impression on everyone blessed to cross his path.
