Mrs. Willie Maie Foust Stone passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Pine Ridge Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born on January 2, 1917 in Davidson County, NC to the late William Adam Foust and Gertrude Maie Kinney Foust. On December 7, 1934, she married Leighton Brown Stone, who preceded her in death on September 18, 1989. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Everett Foust, Kenny Foust, William Foust, Jr., and Robert (R.J.) Foust and sisters, Elizabeth Revis, Mozelle Gallimore, Flois Fouts and Annie Sowers.
She was an active member of Johnsontown United Methodist Church until she was no longer able to attend. She served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and was a willing worker for every church event. She had a determined Martha attitude with a sweet Mary soul. She loved fishing at their lake house and gardening in anyone’s garden. Her gift of giving was the legacy she leaves for all of us to remember.
Surviving are a daughter, Lou Edwards (Bill) and son, Gordon Stone; grandchildren, Sharon Edwards Payne (John), Tracy Stone James, and Chuck Edwards (Michelle); great-grandchildren, Emily Stevenson (Brian), Wes Payne (Megan), Trent Edwards and Blaire Edwards; great-great grandchildren, Mary Payne, Wesley Payne, and Graham Stevenson; one sister, Charlotte Wagner; and one brother, Donald Foust.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at 3:00 PM at Johnsontown United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Sidney Lanier officiating with COVID-19 social distancing and mask mandates followed. Mrs. Stone will lie in state on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville for members of the community to pay their respects. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Optum Nurse Practitioners; Tee, Michelle, and Neisha and the staff of the 100 Hall at Pine Ridge Health and Rehab, who lovingly cared for her the last 7 years.
