Wilma Vernell Forrest Key, 82, of Thomasville passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, October 22, 2020 with her loving family by her side. Vernell was born July 5, 1938 to the late William Carlius Forrest and Mary Esther Pack in Stokes County. Vernell worked as an Inspector at Thomasville Furniture Industries, from which she retired after 37 years of service. She was a member of Wayside Tabernacle Freewill Baptist Church. Vernell loved her family dearly and her church family. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, David Allen Key on November 8, 2012; five brothers, William “J.C” Forrest, Bernie Forrest, Nettis “Toby” Forrest, Foy Forrest, Troy Forrest; one sister, Mary Frances Brown; one granddaughter, Kelly Michelle Wall.
Surviving are her two sons, Wayne Draughn and wife Debbie, Tim Draughn and wife Shelia; two daughters, Tammy Mills and husband Ronald, Barbara New; one brother, Roger Forrest; ten grandchildren, Shannon Craver and husband Travis, David (Crystal) Draughn, Joshua Alley(Stacy), Larry Draughn (Shelia), Matthew Alley and wife Kyndall, Timmy Draughn (Kayla), Dillon Draughn, Nathan Draughn, Josh Mills and wife Krysten, Jennifer Blue and husband James; she also leaves behind twelve great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, James Key; and one furry companion, Benji.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Wayside Tabernacle Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Garrett officiating. Inurnment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Vernell will lie in state at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home on Sunday from 8:00AM-6:00PM.
