Woodrow "Red" Charles Obituary

Woodrow “Red” Franklin Charles, 84 of Thomasville passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020 following a brief illness. Woodrow was born June 8, 1935 in Thomasville to Mark H. Charles, Sr. and Blanche Fishel Charles. He attended Hasty High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1953. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Mark H. Charles, Jr. Woodrow was a dedicated member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He was a truck driver for Westinghouse, started W.F. Charles Concrete Co., and later worked for Vann York Toyota. Woodrow was known for his love of vintage trucks and was well known in the community for his baby blue 1955 Chevrolet. He was a longtime member of the Furnitureland Antique Car Club.

Woodrow is survived by his wife Carolyn Blair Charles and their four children, Jay Charles, Martha Sands (Terry), Lee Ann Ridge (Robbie), Amy Sexton (Tim); six grandchildren, Josh, Jon, Randi, Tyler, Connor, and Delaney; and seven great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Grady, Kennedy, Hudson, Crosby, Harper, Hayes, and one future great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pleasant Grove UMC Cemetery Fund (PO Box 1049, Thomasville, NC 27360) or Hospice Home of the Piedmont. His viewing will be held Tuesday, March 24 from 12-6pm at J.C. Green Funeral Home of Thomasville. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, with details to follow.
