Zachary Rogers Obituary

Zachary Robert Rogers, 35, of Thomasville passed away, Saturday morning February 28, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Zac was born August 1, 1990, son of Mitzi Swaim Marlowe and Terry Rogers of Davidson County. From early on Zac dreamed of being a Firefighter.  As a child he loved playing with firetrucks, and visiting fire stations to meet the firefighters and look at the trucks. At the young age of 14, he began making his dreams come true, by joining Pilot Fire Department as a Junior Volunteer Firefighter and was recognized “Junior Firefighter of the Year” in 2007. In 2014, Zac won first in the Pilot Fire Department Firefighter Muster. During his time at Pilot Fire Department, he served as a Lieutenant.

After his graduation from East Davidson High School, he worked to receive his firefighter certifications, and would later receive his EMT certification in 2023.  At the age of 22, Zac participated in the Crystal Coast Fire Academy. Zac was deeply devoted to his calling, proudly serving as a firefighter for several communities, including: Pilot Station 54, Silver Valley Station 91, Midway Station 86, where he served as Captain, Central Station 37, where he served as Lieutenant, and was recognized as Central Fire Department’s “Firefighter of the Year” in 2020, Advance Station 12, Walburg Station 61, and City of Lexington Station 2.

Zac was blessed with a servant’s heart, serving with courage and pride, always willing to answer the call to help others in their time of need. Zac was a loving son and grandson who cherished his family beyond measure and carried a deep respect for those who raised him. He was a loyal friend to many and the kind of person who showed up, in the good times, the hard times, and every moment in between.  Known for his big heart, quick wit, and unforgettable sense of humor. Zac was a natural prankster and jokester who could light up any room and make everyone feel like family. He lived life fully, loved fiercely, and found joy in bringing laughter to others. If you knew Zac, you know how he loved to make people laugh and was the clown of the party. He faithfully loved his family and friends. His presence brought comfort, strength, and smiles too so many. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Zac was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Oliver and Wilma Rogers, and maternal grandfather, Bobby Swaim, “Daddy Bobby”. In addition to his mother and father, left to cherish his memory, are his daughter, Isla Rogers, who was the light of his life; maternal grandmother, Vivian Swaim; many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and countless brothers and sisters in the fire service, who were honored to serve alongside of him.

All services will be private to the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the firefighter organization of the donor’s choice.
