Mr. Zeb Franklin Hanner, 88, a resident of Thomasville, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021 at the Piedmont Crossing Retirement Community. He was born on January 30, 1933 in Thomasville to the late Zeb Vance Hanner and Margie Sechrist Hanner. Zeb worked 22 years for Davidson County serving as Transportation Director. For 88 years he was a very active member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Thomasville and was the church treasurer for 40 years. He served on the State Recreation Commission under Gov. Jim Martin and served two terms on the Thomasville City Council. Zeb was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Thomasville and he enjoyed daily trips to Bojangles and Sunrise Diner. On May 1, 1953 he married Dorothy Brewer Hanner who preceded him in death on April 15, 2004. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, Zeb Vance Hanner and Margie Sechrist Hanner; daughter-in-law, Tammy Hanner; and two sisters, Emma Skeen and Dorothy Eddinger.
Surviving are his three sons, Zeb M. Hanner and wife Charlesanna, Steve Hanner, and Ken Hanner and wife Charlotte, all of Thomasville; seven grandchildren, Dawn Chmielewski and husband Greg, Vance Hanner and wife Cheryl, Erin Garrison and husband Ian, Allen Hanner and wife Elaine, Erin Shew and husband David, Evan Hanner and wife Alexandra, and Ryan Hanner and wife Paulina; nine great-grandchildren, Austin, Carlie, Rachel, Lauren, Caroline, Layla, Vivian, Gillian, and Reese; and several extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Starbuck and Rev. Larry Watts officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6:00 till 8:00 PM at the JC Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Bethel UMC, 508 Fisher Ferry Street, Thomasville, NC 27360.
